According to reports, StudioCanal is relaunching The Avengers television series.
It is up to extraordinary agents to exact revenge on those who perpetrate crimes against the people and the state. The Avengers name was linked with the 1961–1969 television series, almost 50 years before the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was even announced. Furthermore, it has been stated that StudioCanal is returning TV's British crimefighters to the small screen.
Deadline claims that StudioCanal intends to revive The Avengers, and that the pilot has reportedly already been written, despite the Trade not disclosing its source(s).
Ben Taylor, Mickey Down, and Konrad Kay are the project's co-creators. In addition, Taylor will act as executive producer and director of the new series. The Avengers will be co-produced by Wall to Wall Media.
StudioCanal has refrained from commenting on the upcoming Avengers series as of this writing.
On January 7, 1961, the first episode of the original series aired. The highly-action spy thriller aired for six seasons and 161 episodes before ending in April 1969.
Sydney Newman was the creator of The Avengers.
Along with Donald Wilson and C.E. Webber, Newman co-created Doctor Who, another hugely successful British television programme.
Following the departure of actor Ian Hendry from the series after its premiere, Patrick Macnee's character, John Steed, took centre stage.
Years later, Macnee's secret connections reached the 007 series when he costarred with Roger Moore in 1985's A View to a Kill.
In 1998, Macnee voiced Invisible Jones in the feature film version of The Avengers.
A few other cast members from The Avengers also made the transition to the James Bond universe, including Diana Rigg and Honour Blackman, two of the most well-known Bond Girls in 007 history.
In seasons two and three of The Avengers, Blackman played the crime-fighting Dr. Cathy Gale.

She then costarred with Sean Connery as Pussy Galore in the 1964 film Goldfinger.
During the first episode of series seven as well as seasons four through six, Diana Rigg's Mrs. Peel teamed up with Macnee's John Steed, a secret agent. Nevertheless, Rigg bears the dubious distinction of being the sole Bond girl to wed 007! Yes, in the 1969 movie On Her Majesty's Secret Service, James (George Lazenby) falls in love with Tracy (Rigg) and marries her. Sadly, in the devastating film's epilogue, Tracy is shot and killed by Blofeld (Telly Savalas), turning the happy couple's pleasure into sorrow.
StudioCanal has not yet disclosed a possible premiere date for the revived Avengers television series.
